Leonard and Mrs. Parshall heat their two bedroom home with wood, switching from butane for three winters. They report a 200 dollar annual saving though wood supply is limited in their southern Panhandle area.
The November weather showed a dry month in the southern Panhandle with low precipitation. Flight Service Station at the airport logged 0.31 inches while the agricultural lab north of Parisp measured 0.12 inches. Three-month totals stood at 0.81 inches and 0.47 inches respectively, with temperatures dipping to 8 below zero and record lows approaching the all-time Sidney benchmark.
In Cheyenne County land activity remains robust despite low crop prices. A quarter section wheatland east of Lund sold for 346 per acre to Don and Leroy Hadden with Vic Asmus noting prices nearly equal to last year. Lease bids followed with high bonuses and high annual rentals announced for several tracts. The Associated Press reports Nebraska plans first underground water quality rules next year, with the Environmental Control Council to consider them soon.

A man was arrested Thursday night around 10:30 by Sidney police atop Cabela's. He is jailed in Cheyenne County Jail on suspicion of burglary. No charges filed yet. The name has not been released and alarms were triggered.
The jury in Alan Seems of Kimball murder case has not reached a verdict at noon after more than seven hours of deliberations Thursday and nearly 24 hours earlier, with the panel of 10 women and two men hearing testimony from Seems and two doctors about the death of his wife Sandra.
