Snow and Cold Move Into Southern Panhandle Tonight

Cheyenne County faces a sharp cool down with about an inch of snow and winds arriving around 8 p m as a cold air surge spreads into the southern Panhandle. Light snow and north winds are expected to linger through tomorrow with sub zero readings possible for three to four days, as Scotts Bluff Weather Bureau warns. Temperature in the core cold air basin runs 40 degrees below zero.

Youth Driver Fined for Incinerator Crash

Bruce Brenneman, 19, of Ordville, was fined $25 and costs in Sidney Police Court after his car rammed a cement incinerator at 1545 Illinois St at 12 14 a m Saturday, demolishing the structure according to police records.

Oil Gas News Wildcat Tests Signal Small Recovery

A small recovery of oil was reported from a sand drill stem test on State J No 1, a wildcat southeast of Gurley. About 470 feet of fluid recovered with 5 feet oil, 45 feet oil-cut mud and 240 feet sea water. Second test planned at 4 531 34 feet as drillers push ahead.

Herbert Stevens Dies Rites Planned for Potter Leader

Herbert H. Stevens Cheyenne County treasurer since 1943 died at 61 in a Denver hospital from liver cancer. Services set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church Potter with graveside Masonic rites. He led county finances, helped place funds in government savings bonds, and was a former Potter newspaperman and WWI veteran. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth two children Wesley and Mrs Ervin Bauer three brothers and a granddaughter.
