They travel in small groups along Highway 30, rest every 15 miles, sleep in auditoriums and parks, begin each day at 5:30 a.m. with pancakes and devotions, and view the journey as a test of character and self reliance.
Mike Beck of Taylor University says the Spokesmen riders gain a mature view of God in life as they face elements. They perform impromptu patriotic and folk concerts in towns along Highway 30, presenting fellowship in a team mission. contrasting scenes show a ragged roadside group seeking rides.
