Tom Guffy and his sister-in-law Mrs Anna Floher killed each other in a pistol duel in Herrin Illinois. Guffy visited his mother in law's home where his wife, separated a month earlier, lived she fled as he shot at her. Floher fired from a window with a loaded revolver and a gunfight ensued eleven shots were fired with Guffy mortally wounded by Floher as she had fired six bullets into him before dying.
Huntington West Virginia August 28 A detective and former Nolan West Virginia resident Mike Duncan was jailed here while on the trail of Wesley Edwards and Sidna Allen in connection with the Hillsville Virginia court tragedy. Duncan said he acted in self defense after a fatal shooting seven years ago in Nolan by his hand.
