Bondholders receive varied payouts in Independent Telephone case

Omaha August 22 bondholders of the insolvent Independent Telephone company are receiving about 20 cents on the dollar while others receive roughly 430 cents. The disparity stems from Nebraska Telephone paying 400000 more for the plant than the receiver's sale bid. The extra 490000 is shared pro rata among bondholders who formed a committee before the sale. Inside sources say Nebraska Telephone made the promise to pay more, aiming for a 1400 6m return, but buying at the receiver's sale. The property sold for 1900000 at auction, with the extra 400000 going to the bondholders' committee.
