Village Trustees approve cement sidewalk liability and updated schedule

The Village Trustees met August 9 with five members present. A unanimous resolution makes cement sidewalk contractors responsible for walks they lay and allows rebuilding at their cost if not on grade. The board shifts to first and third Fridays at 4 pm and orders cement crossings on Lincoln Pine and Chestnut Washington. Various street and cemetery bills are approved and warrants directed. The meeting adjourns to August 16, 1912.

Cheyenne County Commissioners Set Plans for Lodgepole Creek Bridge

Cheyenne County Nebraska board approves plans for a forty foot Lodgepole Creek bridge in section 31 township 14 range 49 and authorizes bids. They dismiss H D Moore as construction supervisor for the new courthouse and authorize road and highway actions including road 203A, public highway status, and repairs. Claims totaling various funds are audited and warrants ordered.

Col. Hardy spent a short time in Cheyenne this week to observe the frontier celebration. He met his daughter and her husband there during a business trip through Utah.

Death of R. E. L. Jackson's father at Slater Missouri

R. E. L. Jackson's father died in Slater Missouri on August 6 at age eighty one. Jackson reached his bedside a few hours before death. Mrs Scanlon's sister Mrs Ginapp and her son John, and their brother John Connelly returned to Brady Island Nebraska Wednesday morning.

Noble Spirit of Sidney Drugist Dr Scanlon Dies

Dennis Joseph Scanlon of Sidney Nebraska died after illness. Born May 9 1850 in Tipperary Ireland he was a pharmacist and former mayor. Funeral at Catholic Church with Father Kampman and Father O Sullivan. He left wife Julia Connelly and relatives in attendance.

Cyclone Destroys C A Glassburn Home in Sidney Draw

A cyclone struck C A Glassburns house in Sidney Draw near Dye about eight Thursday night. Ten family members were in the kitchen when the house was lifted and carried 30 rods before smashing into kindling. All the family were injured, some seriously, with Carrie Miland and Max and Mrs injured and scalded. The barn was unroofed and a sod house with a sod roof blown to pieces. The storm appeared centered on the site. no other damage reported. Editor Wisner of the Bayard Transcript visited the office last Monday, briefly.

Successful Session of Cheyenne County Teachers Institute

Forty one Cheyenne County teachers gathered for a week long institute led by County Superintendent Mrs. Stark. Prof. O W Neale Miss Hicok and Principal Chambers presented courses on art reading arithmetic civics and language arts while sessions included reed work stenciling leather work and round table discussions. A long enrollment list notes many attending teachers from Sidney Lodgepole Potter and surrounding towns.
