Wheat varieties favored in Nebraska study

Nebraska extension agronomist J C Swinbsink reports about 90 percent of local wheat is from recommended varieties. Triumph and Wichita, though grown more, are not recommended due to poorer winter hardiness disease resistance and baking qualities. Triumph yields 32 percent below Nebraskas average Pawnee and Bison perform better. Wichita has weaker disease resistance winter hardiness and lower average yield than Warrior and Pawnee.
