Legion and VFW Meet in Sid ney for 1963 convention summary
Western Nebraska press association delegates gathered in Sid ney for a one day convention with more than seventy registered. Kenneth Newcomb of Paxton Times was elected district president and J C Bush of Sidney Telegraph became vice president as the group planned an Ogallala 1963 meeting. A Sioux Ordnance Depot tour and a luncheon by the U S Brewers Foundation highlighted the event. A seven man board was named for Midwest Stramit Corp to build a straw processing plant in Dalton with plant site acquisition and stockpiling of wheat straw to begin soon.

Mrs. Montgomery Dead At 51 Funeral Rites Tuesday
Mrs. H. R. Montgomery 51 died Saturday in Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday afternoon at Light Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Carl L. Nelson officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery under Craig Mortuary direction. She was a Presbyterian and past president of B P O Does Lodge. Survivors include her husband Horace R. Montgomery a daughter Patsy Stonehouse a son Robert L. a sister and five grandchildren. Dale Montgomery preceded her in death in 1944. Pallbearers listed.

Rites Today for Pat Kennedy 73
Patrick Stephen Kennedy 73 died Saturday in Memorial Hospital after two weeks illness. Funeral services were held today at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Vincent Pelster officiating and burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were his six sons. A Hastings native born Jan 1 1889 he was a rancher and wheat farmer who retired in 1945 and moved to Sidney. Survived by wife Teresa, three daughters and six sons along with 24 grandchildren.

Robert Green 45 Dies of Heart Attack in Kansas
Robert Green, 45, died Saturday of a heart attack at his Scott City Kansas home. A trucker, he was known in Sidney from earlier work. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Scott City. Survivors include wife Lottie Wimer and three children: Robert 24 in Maywood California, Frank 19 with the U S Navy in Oakland California, and Carolyn 14 at home. Plans for the Nebraska Wheat Growers convention to be held in Sidney on November 15 through 17 were discussed by local Wheat Growers and Wheat Hearts. Host chapters are Cheyenne County. The Wheat Queen contest moves to Wheat Hearts this year with preliminary contests likely in September. A booth at the County Fair was planned with films and displays. Reports on a Washington, D. C. trip to promote wheat legislation were shared by Wayne Campbell Louis Miller Harold Tremain and Ray Cruise. The next meeting is scheduled for September at the home of the presidents.

Frances Shoemaker, 75, mother of Lee Shoemaker of Dalton, died in Council Grove Kansas on Monday Aug. 6 and was buried there Aug. 9. Survived by a son and two daughters. She was a member of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Woman Killed in Two Car Crash Near Sidney
Mrs Love Doty 35 resident of Huntsman community died at the scene when her 1987 Ford station wagon collided with a 1962 Chevrolet east of the intersection three miles north of Sidney at about 8 45 am. Her daughter Paulette 18 is in Memorial Hospital with cerebral concussion fractured clavicle ribs and multiple contusions. Four other Doty children Roy 12 Lloyd Jim 8 and Tim 7 were injured and are being treated or have been released from hospital. James L Moore 33 of Kimball is hospitalized for a back injury and shock. Investigating officer Sgt Mel Buskist said both cars reached the intersection simultaneously and the Doty car hit Moore’s left front. Mrs Doty was thrown under the rear of the station wagon while Paulette was thrown to the ground between the vehicles. The four boys walked to the nearby Ed Lipke farm for aid. Gene Schlotfeld witnessed the crash and aided at the scene. Moore and Schlotfeld, National Supply employees, were en route to oil installations. Funeral arrangements are pending Gehrig & Son Funeral Home. Mrs Doty’s death is Cheyenne County’s fourth highway fatality this year and the state’s 198th, compared to 189 a year ago at this time.

The Nebraska Hereford Association tour moves into Cheyenne County Tuesday morning with a noon luncheon in Sidney provided by local businessmen and Rail's Cafe. About 500 participants will visit Hereford producers from Lodgepole to the Walters ranch near Sidney, ending the day there after spending the night in Scottsbluff.
