Heaton Jr Named To Fill Unexpired County Attorney Term
The Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners appointed P J Heaton Jr to complete the unexpired term of County Attorney Frank Balderson who resigned to leave the state. Balderson, a Republican, was the sole candidate previously. Heaton, a former county attorney and a Democrat, surprised officials by being chosen over Republican John Peetz Jr, whose candidacy was pushed by the Republican Central Committee. The Democratic Central Committee considered running a candidate for the November ballot.
