Economic Stabilizer John R. Steelman authorizes Secretary Clinton P. Anderson to increase the current wheat loan rate by three cents per bushel. The move signals policy adjustment aimed at supporting grain prices and farmer income amid market conditions.

Wheat parity level to 90 percent of 1946 July parity

The plan calls for raising the loan level to reflect fully 90 percent of the July 1 1946 wheat parity as mandated by law. This adjustment targets farmers and grain lenders and ties to statutory wheat price support.

Farm loan rates near parity price at $1.49 per bushel

Dr Steelman stated that new rates will average about $1.49 a bushel on a farm loan basis nationwide, roughly 90 percent of the U.S. parity price set at $1.65 per bushel.
