Sidney’s volunteer fire department has been on the jump the past week battling town and country blazes under extremely dry conditions. Fires near Huntsman Olson farm Sunol and along the Burlington railroad southwest of Sidney were sparked by embers. Two alarms Saturday afternoon sent rural and city crews to Sunol and the city dump. A Friday blaze eight miles east engulfed an irrigation meter and pump. Firemen saved grain and buildings with a new water and chemical equipped unit. The rural district costs are borne by local farmers, and praise from farmers highlights the department’s value and neighborly fire protection.

Farm Index Reaches Record July High After OPA Termination
