Panhandle Mother Ode To A Virus By Betty Knicely
Poem written while ill by Betty Knicely in 1962 laments a virus. It vividly personifies illness as a hostile guest that travels from throat to sinuses and stomach, bringing fever and fatigue and a wish for relief through medicine and time. The author notes the virus arrived during July to August 1962, ending with a humorous plea for the virus to depart.
