Dalton and Chadron were named co champions of the annual North Platte Valley Firemen's Assn tournament at Gering Sunday. Both teams scored ten points. Sidney sent fourteen firemen and finished third with three points. Gurley also scored three. Towns in the tournament included Gering Bayard Chadron Mitchell Minatare Alliance Gurley Dalton Scottsbluff Morrill Bridgeport and Sidney. Alliance and Morrill had six points for second place. Bridgeport won the booby prize a shaggy July goat to be tended and fed until next year’s tournament.

Morrill Resident Delbert Owen Dies at 86
Delbert Dale Owen 86 of Morrill died Saturday at Memorial Hospital after months of illness. Funeral arrangements by Jones Mortuary Mitchell. Born July 28 1876 in Butler Missouri he moved to Nebraska in 1900 and homesteaded near Mitchell before living at Memorial Rest Home. He married Etta Laymon January 12 1919 and was survived by his widow four sons Dale Delbert Clarence Eugene two daughters Anna Goodwill Martha two sisters Lola Steele six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
