Nebraska To Up Sorghum Seed Output In 1958
Nebraska certified seed growers plan a large rise in hybrid sorghum seed output this year and next. Dean W. Lancaster of the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association says 1957 production of 650000 pounds was a "drop in the bucket" and demand will require more seed. Production growth hinges on irrigation and favorable growing areas, with most seed from the south central area and south of the Platte River. Requirements include foundation seed stocks, three inspections, isolation from related crops, freedom from noxious weeds, and 85 percent germination for a certified seed tag.
