Halstead Retires From Army After long service at Sioux Ordnance

80 Chickens Stolen From County Farm
Don Rezac reported 80 chickens stolen from his farm four miles west of Sidney in Cheyenne County on Wednesday. The birds weighed about three pounds each and the loss marked the largest poultry theft in the county in over a year. A similar 1955 theft near Brownson of about 100 birds remained unsolved.

Underpass Pumps Fail Initial Test
Sidney officials report 13th Avenue underpass flooded after two large pumps failed to auto start during a brief rain. Water rose several feet, flooding a car and hindering traffic until city workers activated pumps and cleared the water in seven minutes. A small tornado northeast of Alliance knocked down power lines but caused no major damage, with 0.72 inch of rain at Alliance airport and over an inch in Alliance proper. Mishap Causes $360 Damage on El Rancho Road
Sidney police cited Jerry Mangels, 16, for careless driving after his auto, traveling north, struck a parked car owned by David J Neubauer, 35. Damages totaled about $360 with $300 to Mangels vehicle and $60 to Neubauer's car, the impact occurring 72 feet south of Monte Vista Drive.
