85 Year Old Woman Celebrates Birthday With Permanent Wave
Mrs. Mary E. Davison of Ogallala marked her 85th birthday by getting a first permanent wave at a local beauty parlor. She is mother to Mrs. Clarence Triska and grandmother to Mrs. Otto Aufdengarten of Sidney. She lives at home with occasional help from family and plans quiet celebrations with her granddaughter. Her husband’s passing came five years ago after a long farm life and 63 years of marriage.

Emergency Alligator Bite At Telegraph Office

Meick Civil Case Is Given To Jury
After six days of testimony the civil case of Fred Meick versus Western Utilities was given to a twelve juror panel in the district court. The trial, one of the longest in recent years, featured extensive testimony over Meick’s injuries from a fall into a ditch behind his home due to a utility ditching by Western Utilities. Meick seeks eighty thousand dollars in damages.

Funeral Today for Mrs. George Deaver at St Patrick’s
Funeral services were held this morning from St. Patrick’s Church for Mrs. George Deaver 63 who died Saturday evening at Ghry enne County Memorial Hospital after a three week illness from a stroke. Rev Albert Albel officiated and burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. The Gehrig and Son Funeral Home arranged services. Leona Rose Korhummel born November 8 1893 in Omaha daughter of Leo and Elizabeth Nan Korhummel. She married George Deaver at Gilead Nebraska April 24 1912 and moved to Sidney five years later where they remained. Survivors include her husband five daughters four sons and 33 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son. Also surviving are two sisters.

Nebraska paid 68 cents to the federal government for every dollar received in federal aid in 1956, a Tax Foundation Inc study found. The nonprofit calculated that fourteen states paid more than they got, while the rest received aid programs. Conversely, fourteen states paid less than fifty cents for every dollar received.

65 000 New Bank Building Starts In Sidney
Sidney’s 1957 construction total approaches 245,894 with a $65,000 permit for the Sidney National Bank building at the southwest corner of Tenth Avenue and King Street. The Christ Construction Co is handling the permit. Architect E J Kriz designed a 50 by 90 foot two-story structure with a basement and a King Street drive in area. Construction is slated to begin soon.

Packing Plant Kall May Hit 800 Per Week
The Sidney Beef Co. formerly The Sterling Packing Co. may slaughter 700 to 800 head weekly once peak operations are reached. Partner Dave Neubauer told the Rotary Club the plant will start with about twenty workers and kill 300 to 400 cattle weekly, with capacity to ramp to 700 to 800. The plant, centrally located, will market under government regulation to all states or internationally and draw cattle from Nebraska sandhills and the North and South Platte Valleys.

American Loan Co to Open Sidney Office This Week
The American Loan Co a Nebraska firm with 38 offices in five states opens a Sidney branch Friday at 832 11th Ave. R C Nelson of Omaha, a five year veteran with the firm, will manage the new office with two other staffers to start. Ohio Oil Co drillers this morning took a second drill stem test from the top of the sand in the Campbell No 1 wildcat north of Oshkosh Garden County. The 3385 foot test showed 60 feet of slightly oil cut muddy water and 330 feet of muddy water with no encouraging oil shows.
