First Property Revaluation Notices Mailed in Cheyenne County

The Cheyenne County assessor's office mailed the first of more than 3,000 real estate revaluation notices as part of a 35 000 county wide program aimed at property valuation equalization. Roy Gish said remaining notices will go out this week with Justin Haynes Co. reps in the courthouse basement to assist owners through May 20.

Damage Counted In City Accidents

Sidney police logged several property damage automobile collisions over the weekend. Three car crash at Tenth Avenue and King Street caused $400 in damage. A 1948 car driven by Fleury Hendrex struck a 1952 car operated by Herman Stueve, spinning it into a third car. A second incident on Illinois Street involved Dewitt Jones and Walter Leverly with combined damage around $270. A third intersection crash near the city edge between Walter Kragel and Harvey Wood caused about $238 in damage each.

County Adds Two Miles Of Highway To Public System

Cheyenne County Commissioners approved adding two miles of road to the county public highway system. Open stretches between sections 18 and 19 in 14-49 and 16 and 21 in 13-48 have been used as public highways for over ten years and are now officially county highways.

Caleb Payne Earns Honor for Heroic Life Saving Act

Caleb Payne received a life saving award at the Wheatbelt Public Power District annual meeting in Sidney. He aided Neal Custer after a 7200 volt shock, performing artificial respiration that restored breathing and saved his life. the event was witnessed by about 350 attendees. A special engraved watch from Employers Mutual of Wausau accompanied the honor. Stan Matzke spoke on Nebraska water resources.

3000 Cattle Sold At Alliance Sale Sets Record Prices

Over 5000 head of stocker and feeder cattle sold in a record sale by the Alliance Livestock Commission Co with buyers from distant locations. Top yearling steers brought 23.10 per carload, others ranged around 21 to 25 dollars with calves advancing to 25.40. Weather hurt appearance but not prices.

County Historical Meet Set in Sidney for Wednesday

Cheyenne County Historical Association officers will be elected at its first annual meeting in the Sidney City Auditorium at 8 p.m. A three member nominating committee Jack Knicely Guy Doran and M W Osborn will present a slate of candidates nominations from the floor are allowed. The program will focus on local history and nonmembers may join at the meeting.

Mrs. Geo Deaver Dies After Stroke In Cheyenne

Mrs George Deaver 63 died Saturday at Cheyenne Memorial Hospital after a three week illness from a home stroke. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at St Patrick's Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary and Knights of Columbus prayers precede. Survivors include husband five daughters five sons two sisters and 33 grandchildren with one son deceased. Memorials may go to St Patrick's Church fund.

Council Faces Small Agenda At Sidney Meeting

Sidney city council meets with a lean agenda. Bids will be opened for a new electrical distribution truck, with separate bids for the basic truck and a special body. About 10 000 was budgeted by City Manager Murrey Fuller. A 1947 truck now in use will be retired. The only unusual topic is a plan to renew occupation licenses for gas fitters, plumbers and electricians not active during the year per city inspection records.

With the plaintiff close to resting, Western Utilities faces closing arguments after the pause likely to push deliberations past Wednesday.
