Early spring alfalfa weevil control and lime goals
Early spring sprays against adult alfalfa weevils are preferred over larval sprays. Dieldrin or heptachlor can be used before new growth exceeds two inches, with granular forms usable in late winter or early spring. Nebraska agronomists estimate a million tons of lime annually for 10 years to meet crop needs, based on 4 to 5 million acres to be limed before reseeding legumes. The second Science in Agriculture conference for top high school seniors will be held at the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture on Thursday, April 23.
