Sidney man boosts tractor power with home built six cylinder model
Doyle Foland of Sidney devised a six cylinder 425 cubic inch butane tractor replacing a four cylinder 403 inch chassis. Moline officials reviewed the design after a three hour meeting. The pilot model rolled out in Minneapolis and shows promise for higher pulling power, riding ease, faster travel and fuel economy across wheat regions from Texas to Canada. Foland predicts 72 drawbar horsepower though not yet tested at NU.

Rites Held for Wayne C. Atwood at Warren Mortuary
Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock this afternoon from the Warren Mortuary in Fort Collins for Wayne C. Atwood 55 who died of a heart attack Sunday morning. He owned the Town and Country Liquor Store and had previously operated motels in Minnesota and Nebraska before moving to Sidney a year ago. Born October 30 1903 in Collins Iowa he was the son of E C and[sic] Mrs. Kelly now of Fremont. He married Catherine Bettis January 9 1930 in Chicago. Survivors include his wife and one daughter Mrs Larry Struckmeyer of Holyoke Colorado and his parents.

Mrs. Thimgan Dies At 92 A Sidney Nurse for Years
Anna B. Thimgan 92, longtime Sidney resident, died Tuesday at Memorial Hospital after ten days as a patient. She aided Dr. J. R. Taylor from 1923 to 1935 as a practical nurse and moved to Sidney in 1918 with Rudolph Thimgan, who died in 1954. Surviving are two daughters, seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, and one brother. two sons and a daughter predeceased her. Funeral Friday at 2 p.m. from Craig Mortuary with Rev. R. L. Townsend officiating. burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Born May 18, 1866, in Louisville, Neb. to George and Claude Schoeman, she was educated in Louisville and became a practical nurse in Omaha.

Meysenburg Elected President of Jaycees
Henry Hank Meysenburg, 33, was elected president of the Sidney Junior Chamber of Commerce at the annual officers' election Tuesday evening. Charles Lafler and Jerry Matzke were named first and second vice presidents. Merle Bobo became treasurer, Vince Maliszewski secretary, and Bob Lafler state director. Roy Bobo and Dick Smith won three-year board terms. Bill Usher was chosen director for one year. Holdover directors are Lew Schneider, Tom Kokjer and Jerry Dow. Meysenburg, a Sidney resident six and a half years, has been a Jaycee since 1954 and previously served as secretary and first vice president. He is an ad salesman and sportswriter for The Telegraph and was Sidney Broncs president in 1956. A St Patrick’s fund drive publicity chairman in 1958, he will take office after the State Jaycee Convention at North Blatte May 13. Membership stands at 166 with Verné Anthony noting the total at 106, the highest in five years. A Teen-Age Safe-Driving Road-E-O is set for May 24, with the winner advancing to the state contest, and a Teen-Age Dance is planned for May 8. The chapter voted to finance the Road-E-O from chapter funds. Tore Strom is chairman.

Second Group Forms For Hopper Control Program
A second grasshopper spray program covering about 10 000 acres has been formed by ranchers in Morrill and northern Cheyenne counties. A similar program was set up in southwestern and central Cheyenne County last month. A meeting to explain the program is set for Thursday at the Carl Olsen residence in Sidney at 171 Newton. Two district areas were formed Monday at the Morrill Cheyenne County meeting. committee members named include Verne Hinman Ed Lessman Robert Cape and Kermit Nelson all of Dalton. Louis and Walter Jurgens will select another member for the Northeast Cheyenne control area east of Gurley. A Dalton meeting is scheduled Monday at the Dalton Community building. Contracts will be signed and the control area outlined. The meeting starts at 7 30 p.m. Government funding will share costs: 20 cents per acre from the ranchers 20 from the state and 20 from the federal government.

Wisconsin Man Pleads Guilty At Arraignment
Leonard Revels a 48 year old Sparta Wisconsin man pleaded guilty to a statutory rape charge at an arraignment in Cheyenne County court and was bound over to District Court for trial. Bond set at 1000 dollars. He is charged with rape of a 16 year old Wisconsin girl now held in Cheyenne County jail on juvenile delinquency charges. Revels faces additional charges including incest contributing to the delinquency of a minor and assault and battery but has not been arraigned on those charges.
