Aerial Tour Planned From Sidney This Week
The first aerial farm conservation tour begins Friday from Sidney visiting Cheyenne Kimball and Deuel County. Best Spellers Are Crowned Best Spellers Are Crowned
A total of 263 Cheyenne County rural and city school children competed in the annual spelling contest held Saturday in the Junior High School building. The morning written examination separated 90 third and fourth graders, 114 fifth and sixth graders, and 59 seventh and eighth graders. Winners for the rural and city schools were announced with first and second places across grade groups, led by Jeff Bush and Lois Meyer in the upper divisions. Judges were Mrs. Forrest Planck, Mrs. Donald Niece, and Mrs. Lena Atwood, with Miss Marie Nicholson and T. R. Tillotson overseeing oral delivery.

City Election Preview Sees Moderate Turnout and Close Ward 2 Race
Voters are expected to turn out in average numbers for the municipal election. In the north side ward two incumbent Carl Hellwig faces A. J. Jorgenson over a plan for an underpass and better streets. Ward two sees little campaigning by H. R. Logan and Dr. B. H. Grimm. Ward three has R. J. Porter unopposed. A four man school board ticket contests two seats. Polls open 8 am to 8 pm at three sites with results likely within an hour of closing. Additional local elections occur in all county towns with Friday’s paper to carry results.

Adolph Engstrom aged about 65 died Sunday morning in Dalton Hospital. A well known farmer living northwest of Potter, he awaited funeral arrangements pending word from relatives. Rites will be in the Lutheran Church at Potter with full obituary to appear Friday in The Telegraph.

Reclamation Funds to Finish Nebraska Transmission Lines
Reclamation Bureau announced funds to complete transmission lines from Gering to Sidney, Sidney to Sterling, and Gering to Alliance in Nebraska. Other expansions north of Alliance and east from Sterling to Ogallala await more money. Wire stringing has begun on Gering to Sidney for a 115kV line, but will carry 33kV until equipment arrives. Officials expect full energization and low rates, with community supply possible by winter 1950, and Sidney likely to be a customer at about 7 mills per kWh once energized.

6000 Carloads Of Spuds Moved From Panhandle
The February through March 1949 report shows 1728 carloads of potatoes moved from western Nebraska Panhandle. Rail shipments accounted for 1535 cars, 89 percent, while 188 carloads, 11 percent, moved by truck. Five carloads were diverted from farm cellars as stock feed.

Muro of Ordville facing entering an automobile to commit larceny with a not guilty plea entered and bound over on a $500 bond for theft of a spare tire from H. M. Clemens. Sheriff Schulz arrested him Tuesday. Dobberstein received a preliminary hearing and a lawyer was assigned for a continuation today. Thorpe was appointed counsel as Dobberstein pleaded guilty to larceny as bailee for converting 38 bushels of wheat valued at $176.95 from Farmers Union Co- ops Assoc at Lorenso.
