New Legislation Threatens Irish Potato Industry
California's early Irish potato sector faces lower price support under a new farm law, Dr. Ivan M. Lee of UC reports. Production surged to 33 million bushels in 1946 from 81,000 acres, then fell in 1947 due to acreage limits. Future output tied to price support, with 1949 prices likely lower relative to other crops.
