Returns from the fifth annual Community Chest drive are coming in but much work lies ahead for solicitors. H. W. Pat Kelly reports Shafter’s drive is in the same stage as other cities and reaching the $4825 goal will be tough. If overlooked, donations may be left with Bank of America staff.

Eugene Neufeld Returns Home On Two Week Furlough

Pfc. Eugene Neufeld arrived at his parents home Saturday morning November 20 for a two week furlough. He recently completed a 14 week course at the U S Air Force technical school in Fort Warren Cheyenne Wyoming and graduates from the clerk and typist school. He will depart December 1 for Washington DC to join Military Air Transport Service.

Visit by Milton Warken Family in Shafter

Mr and Mrs Milton Warken tine visited in Shafter for six weeks at the home of Mr and Mrs Aaron Warkentine. The Warkentines returned from a five and a half year stay in City and plan a holiday air Sunday with decorations as volunteers finished the project in record time.

Shafter Senior To Compete In Finals

Virginia Cato, a Shafter High School senior, performed Saturday at Bakersfield auditorium among Kern County youth musicians. Final selection will come from Saturday performers and four other district auditions aired across thirteen radio broadcasts, narrowing to two finalists.

Christmas Seal Sale Opens in Kern County

The 1948 Kern County Christmas Seal Sale began with seal deliveries through the mail. The drive supports tuberculosis control via the Kern County Tuberculosis and Health Association. The county quota is 45000 dollars with most funds staying in state and county services.
