The Shafter Art Association fosters local artists through exhibits and classes in painting and ceramics. It encourages members and residents to express talent, with painting classes led by a Bakersfield teacher and ceramics tied to the high school night school.

News of the passing of Dr Milton M Kay 78 shocks Shafter residents. He practiced in Shafter from 1910 to 1942 at National City Hospital. Born in Gifford Illinois he died November 16 with interment at Hills Cemetery Ocean View.
