In Shafter the Vacation Bible School runs June 7 to 16 from 8 45 to 11 30 am. Ruth and Dauphin head the staff with Klint in charge of music and Mrs Wiebe guiding refreshments under Helen as chairman of the refreshment committee.
The Shafter High division plans a 50 percent cut in textbooks and library books and proposes economies across all schools before the new semester. After revising the preliminary budget, a publication budget will be reviewed by the board in the coming weeks.
The J O Y Fellowship announces installation plans for the new year. A service is set for May 24 at Tor with a meeting to follow in the evening.
Thursday evening at 8 P.M. the Church hosts the Women’s Fellowship year end installations. The Evening Circle serves as hostess circle with Mrs Art Kade as Circle Chairman and Mrs George Collins in charge.
Davie Louise Lightner 39 of 2325 Poso Dr Wasco died at home after a long illness. Charles Kingsland pastor of the Wasco Church of God officiated at the service with interment at Wasco Memorial Park. She was born July 8 1925 and had lived in California 22 years.
Dan Bartel serves as main speaker for a Fathers and Sons banquet hosted by the Mennonite Brethren Church at Map Ba Sha Hall. The event begins at 6 30 with attendees noted as fathers and their sons in the community.
iVacation Bible School runs June 7 to 11 at the church with classes from 8 45 to 1130 am. Children are invited to attend sessions and participate in activities.
Recognition to groups for banquet held at Richland cafeteria before a packed house. Johnson's subject followed the theme of the program How High Is Your Mountain.
The Kern County chapters of the California Association to Aid Handicapped Children holds a meeting this May to discuss programs and outreach for disabled children.
Mrs William Siemens was named president of the Sewing Circle at a luncheon for about 25 ladies. The group recognized members, presented a money tree, and a reading was given. Installation of new officers will occur in September at the start of the new term.
The Tanda Horizon Club of Shafter High School reports 469 hours of service by its Class of 1945 members. They participated in Horizon Club activities, attended the Long Beach Horizon Club Convention, and planned a slumber party at Mert Weid. Mrs. Gene Guenther leads the club, sponsored by the Shafter High School PTA.
The Shafter library will be operated out of the old offices, repurposing the space to house library services and resources for the community. Officials aim to open later this year with improved access and facilities.
