The Shafter-Wasco Irrigation District completed 1973 water deliveries on March 1 setting a new yearly record of 62 543 acre feet, up over 4 000 acre feet from the previous high. Manager Robert Diltz cited reduced pumping and higher energy costs as factors shaping the shift to canal water and noted future increases are likely as nonexcess land is sold and more acreage becomes irrigable.
