Kern County mosquito abatement staff begin the control season as the EPA approves Altocid for unlimited use. District Manager R H De Witt noted its first experimental use last year during an Open House at the Kern Mosquito Abatement District headquarters at 4705 Allen Road between Rosedale and Shafter. The larvacide targets larvae to stop adult emergence.

Mrs Hitchcock Funeral set for March in Shafter
Lydia Hitchcock 78 died March 16 in a Bakersfield convalescent hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 20 at Agee Funeral Home Wasco with Rev. Allen Soward officiating. Interment in Shafter Memorial Park. She was born in Fairview Oklahoma and lived in Shafter since 1922. Survivors include son Chuck Hite and four grandchildren.
