Shafter city and Kern County firefighters battled two blazes six minutes apart. A hay fire on Lerdo Highway damaged ten tons of baled hay worth 710 dollars while a truck and trailer valued at 31 000 dollars and 16 tons of hay valued at 1136 dollars were saved. A storage building fire at 30593 San Diego destroyed the structure and its contents for 800 dollars total loss. The owner is Woodrow Wilson of 30760 Burbank.
Melvile Parrett began retirement last Friday after a 34 year career with Neufeld's Automotive Parts. He started as a counterman in Shafter and Wasco, became outside salesman in 1942, then manager of the Shafter store in 1951 and later general manager of the Shafter operation in 1965.
Shafter's Police Administration Building remains in early construction but has boosted March construction totals by 84000, bringing total permits for the month to 172371. Everett Leon Morgan Earl Wipf Dan Heatherington John Sloas Lee Thomas. Commander Earl O Brien will fold the flag. adjutant Bill Banks to present it to his niece Mrs Lorene Hill. Laura Gisinger a 14 month old of Rio Bravo is gravely ill with leukemia needing daily blood transfusions. Her family seeks donations to the Children’s Hospital Hollywood account and the Shafter Community Blood Bank will visit April 23 to collect blood for Laura and to replenish the local fund.
The SJNP participants have submitted an Early Site Review Report to the U S Atomic Energy Commission seeking a limited review of a proposed nuclear plant site 10 miles NW of Wasco Kern County The review focuses on hydrology geology seismology and seismic criteria It does not commit the project or AEC to the site and preserves public hearings permits and licenses. Participants include California Department of Water Resources Pacific Gas Electric San Diego Gas and Electric Southern California Edison and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
