The Kern County Department of Agriculture reports July was busy with shipper handling especially Thompson seedless grapes. There were 4,752 packing house calls and 8,268 maturity tests, 136 standardization notices, and 28,226 grape logs rejected. Total shipments reached 3,974 cars, led by 1,897 grapes and 1,052 potatoes.
The year 1946 marked the 80th anniversary of the official establishment of a health office in San Francisco.
Kern County Chamber of Commerce and Radio Station KERO announce joint public service broadcasts from the Kern County exhibit booth at the California State Fair. Emory Gay Hoffman notes five day broadcasts starting September 1 with Warren Mead as emcee. Gehe De Young says the programs will salute other San Joaquin Valley counties and boost Kern County participation.
California startup warns "Back to School, Watch Out for Children" as the Department of Motor Vehicles and the American Legion launch a joint accident prevention program lasting through September urging drivers to slow for children in school zones and residential streets.
