The Shafter City Council reported plans to complete by year end and rejected a damages claim for a broken windshield at Kirschenmann Park without prejudice. The council also approved a business license for Foxy Lady for pool tables and read Ordinance 269 a second time, adopting it. The ordinance shifts chance permit approvals to an administrative action with city council appeal rights.
The Shafter Police Department thanked parents and youths for cooperation during a month of moped enforcement. Police plan two new targets including loud car stereos and fast driving in neighborhoods near Ann, Rosalee and West Ash with evening patrols. A $200 reward is offered through the Secret Witness program for information leading to arrest, with anonymity preserved.
SHS will hold free physicals for fall athletes on August 19 at 7 p.m. in the Shafter High School locker room. A physical pre-conditioning week runs August 18 at 6 30 p.m. through August 25, with double session football practice beginning August 25.
