Richland School Board accepts Deral Rawlins resignation
The Richland School District Board of Trustees met Monday night and accepted the resignation of Deral Rawlins, Director of Maintenance. They also moved to revise the job description to place custodians under principal supervision, and posted a vacancy for the position.

Edwards Loses Suit Over Shafter Police Dept Discipline
Anthony Edwards, former Shafter Police officer, lost a December 1979 Superior Court suit seeking to overturn three disciplinary actions, restoration, back pay, and attorney fees. Judge Joseph Noriega denied the writ July 18, 1980. Edwards had been suspended in 1978 for vest use, time logs, and report failures. He appealed to the Board of Review, then filed the writ. Edwards, 60 days from ruling to appeal, later lived in St Helena.

Shafter Names Johnston New Officer and Reserve Pilot
John Johnston is named Shafter Police Department's newest officer, joining July 21 after more than a year as a reserve. A Shafter High School and College of the Sequoias graduate, he ranked third in his academy class of 22 and will study at Cal State Bakersfield. He serves in the Air Force Reserve as a C 141 loadmaster, flying training missions to Japan, the Philippines, Hawaii, Guam, and Ohio. He is single and a longtime Shafter resident.
