Petition to Sell Real Estate in Wilder Estate Case

In Republic County Kansas the probate court will hear a petition by administrator Ferry Owsley to sell Lots 1 through 8 in Block 4 of East Scandia Addition, Scandia, to pay the deceased Derica V V Wilder's debts. Court session set for June 16, 1939 at 10:00 AM in Belleville. Heirs Alice and Edith Knickerbocker notified.

Road commission urged to raise state highways to standard grade

Miss Dorothy Howell of the State Department of the Social Welfare visited local offices last Thursday and Friday. The board of county commissioners decided to mix grasshopper poison at the county shops in Belleville for distribution over the county.

Methodist Church Sets Sunday Service and Children’s Day

The Methodist Church will observe Children’s Day during the 10:30 a.m. morning service next Sunday with Sunday School sessions at 10 a.m. A Student’s Loan Fund offering is planned. Evening worship at 8 p.m. includes Epworth League convention reports from Beloit and a group of about 10 leaguers will travel there on Friday. The Union Vacation Bible School closing program is at 8 p.m. Thursday tonight, with the entire community invited.

The United Brethren Church lists services led by Pastor Bertha Fogelberg and Pastor L M Keys. Sun day School in Norway at 10 a m and Scandia at 10 a m with a Children's Day program at 11 a m. Funeral service for bachelor Faulknex provided with no extra charge due to distance. Belleville residents and relatives from Arnie Wills Chizek Norris and Blosser families attended gatherings and dinners in town. Local visits included Grace Bartlett staying with Ed and Oren Lewis. Joe Brewer and family journeyed from Emporia after a week with relatives. Mrs. Roy Hewitt Patricia Ann visited from Tucson Arizona. G W Wright suffers a hemorrhage.

Presbyterian Children's Day Services in Rydal and Scandia

The Rydal Presbyterian Church led by Jay C. Everett plans a 9 45 a m Children s Day program with a Sabbath School missions offering. In Scandia the 11 a m service follows a brief Sabbath School and features a talk by Dr Everett titled A Little Child Shall Lead. The Wel- come-In Circle meets Thursday at 2 30 p m and the Ladies Aid at Scandia moves to Friday.

Mr and Mrs Carl Reece and children returned to Ottawa after visiting friends in Scandia and plan to move to Topeka next week. George Stromberg is the Radish champion of Republican Valley with a garden sample just under a pound. Commencement for Republic county common school graduates will be at Blair Theatre in Belleville on June 11. Dee Housholder of Tulsa visited over the weekend with his parents Dan and Mrs Housholder. Dorothy Aspegren hosted Sunday dinner with Dorothy Dutton Maurine Larson Marcel Preble and Jetty Green.

Band Concert Delights Large Saturday Audience

June 4 1914 report notes a large crowd at the band concert whose performance met the band’s high reputation. Local residents including Mr and Mrs A S Mahan and visitors from Belleville attended events and visits continued with several trips and calls among townspeople.
