Scandia Plans Old Time Picnic for July Fourth

A Scandia Fourth of July celebration features an Old Time Picnic a basket dinner and supper at the Missouri Pacific Park. Attendees are urged to bring cats and bring friends and relatives with seats and ice water provided. Expect attractions for all ages as large bills advertise the event.

Henry J. Adams county agent and Mrs. J W Davis accompanied six Republic County 4 H delegates and girl sponsors to the state wide 4 H club roundup in Manhattan. Five different clubs from the county were represented.

Sheriff Subpoenaed Witness in Kansas City Robbery Trial

Sheriff Curtis S. Moore was subpoenaed as a witness in a U S Federal Court case in Kansas City related to the November 30 last November 30th post office robbery in Courtland. Crop Tour Set for Thursday June 15 in Republic County

Republic County announces its first annual crops tour to be held Thursday June 15. Farm Bureau sponsored, county agent Henry J. Adams says speakers include John Parker, Floyd Hawkins, and Dr. A W Reitz. Morning visits cover wheat plots at 100 farms. afternoon tours include Ross Swenson barley oats plot in Freedom and Ed Richards wheat variety test in Liberty. Event welcomes all farmers.

Vacation Bible School Nears Closing in Scandia

The Scandia Union Vacation Bible School closes its first season with a Thursday 7:45 program at the Methodist church. Thirty-six pupils from churchs nearby and in Nebraska joined modules in primary, junior, and intermediate departments taught by volunteers. Friday morning's bouquets will go to the sick and shut-ins.

City Council Reappoints Officials and Purchases Fire Equipment

At the regular meeting last Friday the City Council reappointed Marshall Anderson and Night Watchman Charley Nordman for another month. New fire equipment was purchased including hose and an automatic Cut-Off Switch for the water pump. The Fire Chief was authorized to buy a truck to convert into a fire truck.

Two New Teachers Hired for Scandia Schools

Scandia Schools announce the hiring of two new instructors for next term. Alma B. Nichol of Waterville will teach English and multiple related subjects, including crafts and history, after training at Baker University and Kansas State College. Chester L. Lemon of Portis will serve as commercial teacher and athletic coach, with prior posts at Longford and Bethany College credentials.
