A Red Cross standard first aid class begins Thursday June 25 at the Operations Center 2729 Packard Rd Ann Arbor. The 10 hour course runs two hours each evening for five consecutive weeks and is open to Washtenaw County residents aged 14 or older.
The Saline Rotary Club will meet at 12 05 p m Thursday at St Paul United Church of Christ with Leon Vedder as program chairman. Guest speaker Rev LeRoy Cabbage of Milan will show movies of his five week trip to Japan through Thursday July 23. Enrollment may be made by contacting the Red Cross Operations Center at 662 5546. There is no charge.
Washtenaw County records show a surge in chattel mortgages as new car purchases rise, especially in 1964 with a 1398 increase in five months vs 1963. Boats also figure in the activity, boosted by seasonal factors and higher take home pay from tax cuts.
County Treasurer Sylvester Leonard reports 95.05 percent of Washtenaw County 1963 taxes collected, totaling 3,397,372.46 dollars with 3,229,259.61 paid. Saline and townships show similar 1963 collections to 1962, with minor variances in York Pittsfield Lodi and Saline Township figures. The year’s period totals 10,332 versus 8,934 a year ago.

Hoover Ball and Bearing Co and Stubnitz Greene Corp share directors approved a merger with Hoover as the surviving company. Exchange set at 455 Hoover shares per Stubnitz, tax-free status pending treasury ruling and stockholder approval, closing expected late August. Stubnitz pays a 6 cent quarterly dividend. Hoover declares 15 cent quarterly plus 15 cent special year end dividend.
Robert Schumacher senior parole officer for Washtenaw Monroe and Lenawee counties will present narrated slides at the Kiwanis Club of Saline gathering. Dinner at 6 30 p m at Walker s Bakery with Ray Carlton arranging and Saline Junior Deputies invited to view the presentation.
