Police Crackdown Nets 30 Violators

Police crackdown nets about 30 apprehensions for offenses and disorderly conduct. Some are still under investigation or are juveniles. some will pay fines or be released to authorities. Two Piedgeon youths faced bonds after a firecracker incident in a car driven by Chief Levlett.

Firecrackers Bring Suspended Jail Sentences for Six

Five local youths were each sentenced to 10 days in jail suspended for 60 days with $15 fines on disorderly conduct charges from firecracker incidents. Teal Babcock and Patterson were among those arrested. Rogers received five days suspended for 30 days and a $15 fine. Starling pleads not guilty to a stop sign violation as other traffic complaints rise.

Deputized women may patrol Curtiss Park in city plan

Police Chief James Levleit urged the Council to form a volunteer women’s auxiliary to patrol Curtiss Park, stating it would aid child safety. About 30 deputies could be signed up for daytime shifts, with training and uniforms, while regular officers increase park patrols.

Crash Injures McPhee and Brink Youth

Alexander McPhee of 1636 Bishop Rd is hospitalized at Saline Community Hospital with five broken or cracked ribs and a dislocated shoulder after a two car crash south of Milan on Saturday. His passenger William Brink Jr is treated at Saline for a bumped head overnight. Bill Brink Sr and John 6 were not seriously hurt. The pickup was driven by J T Poskey of Monroe County and the accident occurred just beyond the US 23 expressway.

Council OKs 1964 65 general fund budget of 193 869

City Council approves a 1964 65 general fund budget of 193 869 with a 20 mill tax rate on a 5 048 116 assessed valuation. The plan includes a 9 000 rise for downtown mercury vapor lighting and a separate 390 050 capital improvements program funding a new water tower sewage plant addition and extended sewer and water lines.

Howell Legislator To Represent Saline In New District

Michigan's district plan approved by the State Supreme Court places Saline in the sprawling 51st district with parts of three counties. Thomas G. Sharpe, Republican of Howell, becomes the new representative for western Washtenaw including Saline, Manchester, Chelsea, and Dexter, as Washtenaw and Lenawee townships shift districts. Warner’s Washtenaw base weakens, potentially creating a swing seat in the 52nd, while Marvin Esch eyes the 53rd in Ann Arbor.
