Michigan Enacts Far Reaching New Traffic Laws
Radical changes in Michigan traffic rules take effect. Stop signs govern all intersections. Right turns on red are prohibited unless a green arrow permits entry with yield to traffic and pedestrians. A flashing red arrow requires a stop before turning. Pedestrian rules favor green signals and right of way for walkers crossing on green. Pedestrians on rural roads must walk on the left, with sidewalks restricting pedestrian travel on main highways. Speed limits cap at 25 mph in business and residential zones. 50 mph for trailer combos when towed by a car. Lane discipline rules ban straddling lines on multi lane roads and forbid driving in the far left lane. Park parallel within 12 inches of the curb. left curb parking prohibited except on one-way streets. Two-wheeled riders may not ride more than two abreast. bicycles must have a regular seat for carrying a passenger. Hitching to vehicles by riders on bicycles, skates, or toy vehicles is illegal.
