Scouting plans announced for Milan district event slate

The southeastern district meeting in Milan outlined plans for the Court of Honor on November 13 with parents invited. Scouts will swim monthly at Ypsilanti pool and a Lincoln pot luck will occur late January or early February. Scoutmaster is Coach Fuller with assistant Mr O Bradovich.

Dr Detar of Milan Addresses Rotary Club

Dr Detar of Milan spoke to the Rotary Club at the Tavern last Thursday noon praising a Washtenaw County Health Unit. He cited Ottawa County’s lower death rate and improved disease control as reasons for a county health unit. The club voted thanks to the council for Halloween patrols in Saline and appointed a committee to plan youth activities. New members Dr Harold Miller and Julius Feldkamp joined, with guests Fred Greenstreet and Reed Berryman from Ypsilanti.

Mrs Charlotte Parsons Dies In Royal Oak At 68

Mrs Charlotte Parsons wife of G L Parsons died at her son's home in Royal Oak after a lingering illness. She was 68, born August 25 1871 in York township and long a Saline resident. She leaves son Robert B Parsons of Royal Oak two brothers William Barr and George W Barr of Saline two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services were held at Dietiker funeral home at 1 30 Sunday afternoon followed by public services at Federated church Rev Roy J Miller officiating. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Michigan State College researchers led by EB EH Down introduce the Huron oat, a smut resistant variety with high test weight and early maturity. Derived from Markton and Victory, Huron outproduces in several trials and shows higher yields, with 41 pounds per bushel in some plots. Plantings expand across Lenawee Jackson Huron Branch Washtenaw counties. seed from the 1939 increase is available for 1940 trials and commercial production.

Saline Community Fair Promises Big Two Days

The Saline Community Fair at the high school on Tuesday and Wednesday October 17 and 18 will feature poultry grains potatoes canning manual arts cooking pet stock corn garden and orchard products quilts fancy work and livestock. Short courses open Oct 23 at Michigan State College
