Farm Policy Opponents Cautioned In Election Year Debate

Agriculture Department officials warned congressional opponents of Administration Farm Policy that killing the soil bank and cutting payments will cut farm income next year. They projected income declines tied to reduced acreage payments, noting more than 900000 farmers will receive over 600 million dollars this year for taking 21 million acres out of production. The officials argued soil bank payments in 1956 helped offset 1955 gains.
