Saline Elementary School fifth graders formed CARE Club sending 220 pounds of food to Hong Kong families. Eleven students planned a benefit square dance raising 10 dollars, with a 10 dollar CARE HQ check dated May 10, confirming ten 22 pound packages in their name.

The Saline Area Elementary School Student Council hosted a breakfast for 45 Room Mothers on Thursday May 14. Local Dairy Herd Listed With Nations Leading Producers
Paul E. Taylor of Saline fields a purebred Ayrshire herd of 19 cows that averaged 965 pounds of milk with 4.3 percent butterfat and 41 pounds of butterfat in a month, placing them among the nation’s top Ayrshire herds in the 15 to 25 cow test division. All registered cows in the herd are included per association rules.

Twenty six Washtenaw County Road Commission workers were honored at the annual service awards dinner at the American Legion Home in Saline. Recipients ranged from five to thirty-five years of service, with engraved watches awarded to Barnes Dick Esch and Guss. A special scroll award went to Ames Hendley of Manchester. Ray Koch served as master of ceremonies. Milan High School athletes retained the Huron League track title at Ypsilanti, led by Melvin Taylor who won the 100 yard dash and anchored Milan’s winning relay. Saline sent a lone fifth in the medley relay and planned a season opener against Ford Motor Company of Ypsilanti at Saline Park Sunday.

Memorial Program Planned in Saline for Memorial Day
Memorial Day events organized by American Legion Post 322 in Saline include a 10 p.m parade assembling at Saline High School McKay Street. The march proceeds to Harris Street and Michigan Avenue to the cemetery, with a flag raising ceremony at the school after services. Saline teenagers will enter a postponed Road-e-o at Saline High School at 1 p.m. Friday after rain delayed the event sponsored by the local Junior Chamber of Commerce.
