Betsy Dicks 17 daughter of Mr and Mrs John F Dicks of Judd Road won a county citizenship award from the Sarah Caswell Angell chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Ann Arbor. She is a Saline High School senior and has served as student court juror co editor of the yearbook business manager of the school paper and was a Girls State delegate. She works at Giltrows Pharmacy and attends adult tailoring classes at night school.
Saline Hospital announces births: Mr and Mrs Tom Trumbull Willow Village a son born February 2. Mr and Mrs Johnson Quick Saline a daughter born February 5. Mr and Mrs Ray Garleton Ann Arbor a son born February. Medical: Ruth Gensley Ann Arbor Robert Prater Saline Dale Robbins Saline Evelyn Campbell Saline Sandra Thomas Saline. Tonsillectomies: Thomas Bennett Milan Carol Combs Milan Stephen Toth Milan Wayne Taylor Milan Kenneth Martin Saline Lem er and Lee Martin Britton.
C. J. Schneider 52 a farm hand at the Albert Heininger farm 7460 Warner Rd was found dead in the barn early Sunday morning in an apparent suicide. Police were notified at 5 30 am and the county coroner said he had been dead about two hours. He used binder twine tied to a barn rafter and stepped off a crate. The body was taken to Lockwood Funeral Home Saline and picked up by a Carleton Michigan funeral director. No note was left and the motive is unknown.
Curtis Nolin of Flint pleaded guilty Monday February 1 to drunk driving in Saline. He was fined 122.30 with 50 suspended for 30 days on condition of no trouble. Nolin was arrested January 30.
The St Valentine theme dance will be held Saturday night at the Saline American Legion hall. Ken Edwards and his Orchestra will provide the music. Legionnaires and friends are invited.
The Michigan Milk Producers Association Saline Local will hold its annual banquet in the High School Gym on Wednesday night February 17 at 7 30 p m Duisty Miller of Wilmington Co will be the speaker and millish will be furnished by Mae Hawk All members urged to attend.
The Saline Area Schools Room Mothers Association met January 8 in the high school assembly room. Mrs. Kenneth Rogers described current home making courses for ninth and tenth graders, with an eighth grade six week unit.
Tonight at 6 30 the fifth of six Family Night Dinners will be held in the Federated Church dining room. The Ladies Aid Society Circle II organizes the meal and serves coffee. Families may bring food and their own table service. Hazen Jewell will lead a brief program with song, music by Carol and Betsy Wright, and the fifth lesson from That the World May Know presented by Kenneth Youngs. The final meeting will be held next Thursday evening.
The Friendship Class of Federated Church will gather at the February meeting hosted by Mrs. Floyd Rogers. Mrs. Alger Allison serves as class president. A Valentine Exchange is planned featuring homemade valentines and original verses.
A public letter from Mrs. George Austin urges Saline residents to back the Saline High School Band’s state tour. She praises band director Mr. Katterjohn, notes four Saline students study with university instructors, and describes financing via bake sales and ticket sales at the band concert and Milan game dance. The initiative aims to raise funds locally without a Band Booster Club.
Saline music students scored highly in the District Solo and Ensemble Festival with 18 entries. Selections earned 12 First Divisions and six Second Divisions, judged for accuracy tone intonation rhythm expression ensemble and overall effect by prominent area music educators.
Mr and Mrs Clayton Bissell celebrate fifty years of marriage with an open house at 11995 Sabie Man Road on Sunday February 21 in the afternoon and evening. Ettie Marken and Clayton Bissell wed February 22 1904 on the Willow Road farm they recently sold in Milan. Relatives friends and neighbors invited. Please do not bring presents.
Community notice announces a bake sale by Band Mothers to be held on Saturday February 13 at Johans Store starting at the stated time. Proceeds support band activities and student programs.
The city schedules a special election on April 5 to change the charter. Changes include staggering council terms, allowing tax collection for other agencies, and greater bond issuing freedom. A copy of the ordinance is printed elsewhere.
City Clerk E. J. Sear issues notice restricting dogs to pens or leashed at stalls to protect children. Violators may endanger public safety and face enforcement.

Three vehicle crashes are reported. Herman Kohler of 8957 Manchester Road suffered a compound leg fracture and facial cuts after an icy Klager Road slide into an embankment. Emil Milkey of 1865 Milkey Road was hit on Saline Milan Road by Laurance Moore of Morenci, with forehead lacerations and abdominal pain. Cletus Hobbs, a Kentucky auto dealer, ran off U S 112 near the city, causing a total wreck of his car and damage to a tow vehicle.
Nellie Albertson 56 of Ypsilanti died February 3 at Beyer Memorial Hospital after a month illness. Born December 14, 1897 in Vienna Missouri she married Ray Albertson October 25 1912. Survived by husband four sons two daughters 22 grandchildren siblings and a sister who died earlier. Funeral conducted February 3 at Geer Funeral Home with Rev George T Negin officiating. Burial in Highland Cemetery.
City urges residents to leash dogs within city limits under the ordinance. Police report weekly complaints about loose dogs and warn owners to confine pets or face court action. Cooperation requested to curb the ongoing issue.
James Austin, a Saline High School student and member of a trumpet trio, appeared on University of Michigan station WUOM-FM's Young Artists of the Week program aired Sunday February 7 at 1 00 PM. He performed several selections as part of a series highlighting talented junior and senior high students from across the state.
