MSC Turf Plots Aid War and Peace Time Needs
Michigan State College summarizes treatments of 14 grass mixtures seeded in April June August and October at 15 to 303 pounds per acre. Findings show April and August seedings gave best cover for turf suitable for aircraft traffic and road shoulders, while June seedings struggled with weed competition. Kentucky bluegrass and Chewings fescue at 15 pounds per acre match heavier rates for cover. June seedings suffered weed smothering, and August seedings surpassed June by late September.
