Sophia approves 3.35 percent bonds for new sewers
The Sophia town council adopted a resolution accepting a 3.35 per cent bid on 150000 dollars of self retiring revenue bonds to fund a new sewer system and expanded water works. Magnus and Company of Cincinnati bid the rate with G C Hedrick of Raleigh County Bank as next lowest. Bonds mature 34 years, callable after 10, retired from system revenue, with 100000 for sewer, 50000 for water. Mayor Salyers says 9000 in water fund will offset costs. 10000 spent on pipe. Water system total about 70000, sewer about 100000. New rates will be set after ordinances and a public meeting within 60 days.

Unreconstructed Rebel Senator Dies and Family Notes
The article recalls a senator who helped draft the Federal Reserve Law in 1913 as chair of the House Banking and Currency Committee. He clashed with Roosevelt over the gold standard and NRA policy, crop reductions, spending, and the 1937 Supreme Court plan, yet the president remained a personal friend while calling him an unreconstructed rebel. Mrs. Aurelia Glass died in 1937 and his 1940 marriage connected him to Mrs. Mary Scott Meade of Amherst, Virginia. His son Powell, a Lynchburg newspaper executive, died last July.
