Dairy farmers adopt automatic ventilation units to curb heat and humidity in barns. The system lowers condensation and frost on walls, reduces mold and disease, and boosts milk production while improving worker comfort. It uses an automatic air switch thermostat.
A University of Illinois study found spraying cattle with DDT boosted weight gain by about 15 pounds per head over a pasture season. At 25 cents per pound, this equals $3.75 extra per head, surpassing spraying costs. The report urges regular fly control through two or three applications or monthly treatments.
