Reception at Methodist Church

About a hundred attended the annual church reception Tuesday evening honoring Rev and Mrs A C Bates Superintendent M W Willett and Polk school faculty and new church members. Religious leaders and musicians performed as guests shared a social program and lunch.

Polk County Extension News Fall meeting and new staff noted

The Polk County Crop Improvement Association schedules its fall meeting September 30 at 8:00 p.m. in the 4-H Building with program planning and farm service topics. Gloria Ann Jones becomes extension office assistant October 1 after selection by the Extension Board. she will aid at the office during transition and begin full duties soon.

Dekalb Demonstration Plot Wins in Nebraska Contest

The De Kalb Demonstration plot sponsored by DeKalb Hybrid Seed Corn Dealers won first place among 18 Nebraska counties. Lynn Brigham Shelby Stanley Harless of Gresham and S J Harless of Polk oversaw a 17 variety plot with two experiments planted on Albert F Anderson farm three miles east of Osceola on Highway 30A. A field day Friday will showcase yields with free lunch served from 2 to 4 pm.

Polk Boy Wins Honors in Wesleyan Marching Band

Don Miller, freshman at Wesleyan University, earned second place in the first section of the uniformed marching band among about 150 tryouts with 50 accepted. He and Arthur Bates enter their second year in the band and a spring tour through Colorado is planned.

Faithful Workers hold first meeting of year in Down Arborville Way

The Faithful Workers met on Wednesday September 22 at the home of Mrs Earl Stevens with fifteen members answering roll call by naming a Nebraska author and his book. A book review was given by Mrs Martin Hoffman Jr and lunch was served by hostesses Mrs Ester Lackey and Mrs Emory Cramer. Nearby residents visited throughout the day with numerous calls and Sunday gatherings noted at multiple homes including the Mor ris, Merchant, Norquest and Glasser households along with several guests from Lincoln, York, Hastings, Plattsmouth and Aurora.

Methodist Rally Day at M. E. Church

A Sunday Rally Day program at the Methodist church featured Mrs. Oscar Sundberg leading choruses and exercises for the primary department. The honor roll listed several teachers and attending families. The event drew one of the year's largest turnouts with 104 children and adults.

Mrs. Claus Peterson returned home from O Neil with her son AE and is feeling fine. Ostberg of Wood River hosted over the weekend with Mr and Mrs Ilos Ostberg and family. Nebraska posters urge fines for underage alcohol sales

The Nebraska Division and U S Brewers Foundation distribute a poster titled 50 Fine to warn retailers about penalties for selling alcohol to minors. Retailers seek No Sales to Minors enforcement and Sworn Statement of Age blanks to deter underage purchases, part of self-regulation in the brewing industry.
