Services Held Tuesday for Lloyd Blair

Lloyd Blair aged 51 died Saturday night in a Aurora rest home where he had lived several months. Born June 25 1897 he was a native of Arborville and worked as a farmer. He married Cora Kisler Cockle May 21 1944 at McCook. Survivors include his wife his mother a brother Lawrence of Sterling Colo two sisters Mrs Albert Neff Hollywood and Mrs Lafe Cook McCook. Services were held Tuesday September 21 at 2 30 pm at Arborville Congregational Church with Rev E Earle Eaton officiating. Burial at Arborville cemetery with bearers Frank Merchant R E Merchant Carl Williams John Wochner Maurice Flick Frank Wilcox. Soloist Floyd Merchant.

Reception for Pastor and Polk School Faculty

A church reception honored Rev and Mrs Bates and Polk school teachers Tuesday evening. Mrs Neil McNaught led arrangements with Mrs Merle Stromberg, Mrs Glenn Hill, Mrs James Lindburg and Mrs Lloyd Hahn organizing the program.

Mr and Mrs Martin Jones and Gloria Ann hosted a Friday evening weiner roast and social. Mr Jerold Ruzicka and family joined his parents Mr and Mrs Alois Ruzicka for Sunday dinner. Mrs Lyle Dornburgh hosted schoolchildren for Linda's fifth birthday. Mrs Green dined with her son Homer Green and family. Evening callers were Mr and Mrs Will Kroger and Mr and Mrs Fred W Bedient visiting in the Will Green home.

Polk Fall Celebration Draws Crowds and Enthusiasm

Polk residents flocked to the fall celebration sponsored by the Polk Commercial Club and the American Legion Post. The event featured a new cement Farmers Elevator, temporary street lighting, a lively parade, a horse show, dances, races, and prizes. Winners included Rebekah Lodge, Legion Auxiliary, Womans Club, 4-H Club, Legion Post 160, and several rural and graded schools with 80 parade entries. The army plane and parade entries added to the program.

Honored on 90th Birthday Seerley Celebration

In Grand Island Mrs Harriette V Seerley marked her 90th birthday with family at home on Sunday. Attendees included four five generation members and thirteen four generation groups with Mr and Mrs Van Bush and Harriette of Polk among those present.

County valuations show increases over year ago

A Polk County tabulation reports larger valuations in 1948 than 1947 across most categories. Purebred cattle and grain losses offset gains in other lines. household goods and total tangible property rose notably, while intangible holdings also increased. Assessments dated March 10th for both years.

Dr and Mrs C R Peterson of Osceola visited their daughter Mrs Roger Gustafson and family. Ray Cruise and son Don Ray of Sidney visited Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hahn. Gerald Peterson Lynn and Denny visited Walter Jensen in Cordova. Lloyd Nordstedt and Judy of Lincoln spent the weekend with E W Hahn. Will Ziegelbein and Kenneth returned from Elgin Illinois after attending Jerome Ziegelbein 18 who died after a motorcycle accident. Jerome was son of Arthur and Irvin Ziegelbein of Elgin and the family formerly lived here.

Extension news outlines fall wheat seeding date and tree program

The fall wheat seeding date was set for September 16. A large Clarke McNary tree offering will be distributed in Nebraska next spring with about 1.5 million trees from private nurseries. Prices for cooperators are $2 per hundred delivered, with a wide range of species listed and some limits on red cedars. 4-H activities continue into 1949 with new clubs forming and ribbons, records, and checks to be distributed through the Extension Office. Groundwork for 1949 district operations seeks a new district equipment operator.

Bahr Sale Set for Tuesday September 28 at Shelby area

A public sale of farm machinery and livestock will be conducted by Neal Bahr six miles south and a half mile west of Shelby on Tuesday September 28. The catalog lists horses cattle a complete line of farm machinery shop tools and typical farm sale items. The sale begins at 1 00 PM.

State Pool of County Polio Funds Sought

Establishment of a statewide Polio Fund Committee by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis was announced in Lincoln with Clinton Belknap as Executive Secretary. The pool aims to transfer unobligated Nebraska chapter funds to help counties hit hardest, while awaiting additional support from National Headquarters and before the next March of Dimes. The plan seeks to maintain funds for polio patients and preserve research reserves until conditions ease.
