Watering Poultry Through Winter Keeps Pipes Open

Farmers describe year round waterers made from drain tiles with pie plates for drinking. A 500 gallon tank powered by a two horsepower motor feeds the system, while waste drains run to a distant outlet. The setup prevents freezing and supports three stories of poultry housing.

Farm Population Drops 10 Percent Since 1940

U S farm population fell about three million persons or 10 percent from the 1940 census to the January 1 1948 special estimate. The current farm population is 27 439 000, over two million higher than January 1945 as many residents served in the armed forces or worked in war plants.
