Joan Nelson Weds Theodore Wyman in Silver Creek

Miss Joan Nelson daughter of Roy and Mrs Nelson of Clarks married Theodore S. Wyman at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek on Sunday August 29. Rev. Harry J. Hart officiated. The reception followed at the Nelson home for about 75 relatives and friends. The couple left for a Denver honeymoon after the celebration.

Former Polk Boy Killed in Motorcycle Accident

Relatives in Elgin Illinois told Friday that the son of Mr and Mrs Art Zeigelbein was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday evening The Zeigelbeins formerly lived in this community.

Marlene Nelson daughter of Mr and Mrs Sterling Nelson of Auburn married Carl Glenn of Auburn Sunday at 4 p m in Auburn Christian church. Polk County Men Register for Draft First Round

About 200 Polk County men aged 23 to 26 have registered at the Polk County Selective Service office in the courthouse Osceola. Most are married or veterans with 25 unmarried non veterans. The draft board staff is not yet set, and the office will stay open full time to register all eligible men before September 19. Sandra Schuman says registrants accept duties with minimal complaint.

The Diamond Anniversary of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in North Loop highlights Nebraska’s religious colony origins. From 1871 initial Wisconsin settlers faced remoteness. a second wave led to 1872 worship in a dugout and a 1873 formal organization. An electric organ marked modern changes this summer.

All rural schools are invited to participate in the Polk Celebration parade on Wednesday afternoon September 15 at 1 30. Floats individuals or groups may be entered with prizes to the winners.

Polk Village Upgrades Street Lighting System

Polk installs a new street lighting system this week with sixteen wooden poles, eight per parkway section. Each pole arm extends over the street, and the setup will be replaced by steel posts after factory release. Tree trimming also improves the parkway’s appearance.

State Won’t Pay for Deer Damages in Polk County

The Nebraska claims board rejected Dean Samuelson of Polk County for 202 in car damage after a deer strike on November 9. The board declined to set a precedent for deer damage claims and also rejected a total of 634 in similar claims, approving 291 in payments to others.

Veterans On The Farm Training Meeting In Osceola

Veterans interested in On The Farm Training are invited to a meeting at Osceola High School Auditorium on Wednesday September 15 1948. Louis Klein from the State Department of Vocational Education in Lincoln will discuss the program and help form the first class with an expected start date of October 1 1948. Maurice Newcomer of Gresham Nebraska is hired as Veterans Instructor. The meeting starts promptly at 730 p.m.

Hobby Show At Methodist WSCS Draws Local Interest

A hobby show connected to the WSCS program at the Methodist Church parlor drew more than fifty attendees. Exhibits included button collections glass canaries napkins dishes and other items. Program leaders were Mrs Evrrett Green Mrs Vergil Kisfor Miss Daisy Slusser and Mrs Inmer Green. Hostesses were Mrs Forrest Anderson Mrs Here Seymour Mrs Irvin Anderson and Mrs Lloyd Hahn.

Fire Destroys Barn on Frank Larson Farm

A large barn on the Frank Larson farm near here burned Monday. The farm is operated by Larson’s son in law Forrest Hecht. Spontaneous combustion is suspected as the cause, starting in the haymow where alfalfa was stored.
