A Duck Plague Warns of Potential Spread and Precautions

Duck Virus Enteritis DVE or Duck Plague has not been diagnosed in commercial Pekin flocks in the United States since November 1968, but outbreaks have occurred in captive waterfowl as recently as May 1969. The disease can spread via migratory waterfowl, so owners should keep flocks away from wild birds, prevent contact, deter wild waterfowl from landing, seek lab diagnosis for any deaths, and report die-offs to wildlife or disease officials. Social guests and visits noted include Mr and Mrs Max Kroger and Michelle of Kearney, Mr and Mrs Larry Coover, Mr and Mrs Paul Coover, and Leon Johnson of Columbia, Mo.
