Lakeview High School defeated the Polk High Cubs 27 to 0 in Columbus last Friday night. Lakeview dominated in the first half with 21 points, while Columbus managed 16 first downs but most came early. Mick Hoffman threw 6 of 12 for 40 yards for Polk. Columbus went 9 of 12 with two TD passes.
Polk High announces two melodramas The Perils of Priscilla and He Lured Her to the Primrose Path staged by the senior class of class of '70. Friday November 14 at 8:00 admission is $1 for adults and 50 cents for students. Both plays rated G.
Mr and Mrs Neal Sandell announce the birth of a son Kerry Loy in York Hospital on November 3 1969. He weighed seven pounds fourteen ounces.
The narrator recalls 1920s York traffic scenes with Model T cars. Uncle Albert crashes in a circus era crowd and a second 1921 coupe driven by sister Lorna and Vivian leads to a mulberry picking ride near the Stevans farm. The account ends as the mystery collision is noted.
A birthday dinner for Mrs. Esther Berggren of Stromsburg marked her 96th birthday at a Stromsburg restaurant followed by a luncheon at the Paul Strand home. Guests included Dr. E. H. Nordstrom of Lincoln and multiple Berggren family members from Stromsburg and Shelby.
Mrs. M. O. Johnson, visiting Minnesota hospitals for her daughter Solene Scherer, arrived in Omaha Friday night and then went to Lincoln where she was met by Duane Johnson. Mrs. D. N. Mills recovers from a fractured ankle at Osceola hospital. Mrs. Dwayne Miller remains a patient at Lincoln General Hospital.
Modern Millies Extension Club met October 14 at Mrs Dean Lindburg's home. Reports covered York Craft Workshop and fall council. Members planned 1970 lesson program, assigned monthly hostesses, and discussed County Achievement Day and Officers Training. Mrs Owen Bedient and Mrs William Blender presented Picture for Your Home. Next meeting November 11 at Mrs Bedients with Family Fitness lesson. Mrs Owen Bedient news reporter. Mrs Lydia Peterson attended Sunday dinner with Mrs Anna Kisler.
On October 8 1969 Polk High School established its first student council with 13 members led by Mr Hegwood. Officers include president Mark Wood and vice president Pat Ostberg, while Sheila O Shea serves as news reporter. The council plans a school pop machine to fund activities and possibly dental bills.
The kindergarten and first grade hosted a Halloween program Friday with songs and spooky stories, featuring many booing and whoos. Mothers and grades two through four attended, with students listed across front, middle, and back rows and two absentees noted.
