Local Social Notes And Visits From The Progress

Sunday dinner guests visited in multiple homes across the area including the Reed, Spranting, Stouffer, Ostberg, and L. Stouffer households. Visitors from North Platte, Grand Island, and Omaha were noted along with a York visit. A Maytag washEx for sale and local family news including a new baby were reported.

Miss Dorothy Pearson judged several one act plays in Hordville on Tuesday. Grand Island visitors Mr and Mrs Wayne Hill stopped in Monday. Mr and Mrs E W Johnson visited Ernest Flodman Sunday. Maggie Christensen visited York Saturday. Roberta Larson visited Stromsburg with her parents Sunday. Louis Trapp of York and Mrs Emery Cramer with son joined Raymond Shockey’s Sunday visit.

Landlord family to take charge of hotel this Friday

Mrs Ruth Glasser was home from Osceola visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Robert Glaser. Martin Jones was in Lincoln for the football game. Mr and Mrs Raymond Bottum and daughter visited from Lincoln, staying with Mr and Mrs A W Shafer. A welcome reception at the ME Church honored Rev R F Scott and family with about 200 attendees and lunch afterward.

Ten Years Ago October 25 1928 Polk County notes

Ten years ago in Polk County a flurry of social and community events filled the week. Mrs D H Westfall hosted visiting Mrs C R Vail of Lagrange Indiana while football outings and family reunions drew locals to Lincoln Cairo Rising City and Grand Island. A Polk Woman's Club convention in Osceola, a beefsteak fry, corn husking rally, and choir goodbyes highlighted a busy period.

Peterson of Denver stayed overnight with Ray Peterson. Willard Lindbury Neal McNaught and Richard Sealey and families were in Grand Island Friday. Walter Green returned from Lincoln. C H Smith and C Bowers were visitors near Arborville. Irvin Fossburg and family of Central City visited with W Fossburg on Sunday.

Swede Home News Births Weddings and Local Events

Swede Home reports a baby boy named Clayton Philemon born October 19 to Rev and Mrs Leonora Smith of Stanton Iowa. Reynolds Peterson announce birth of a son October 22, former Helen Willits is his mother. Community members attend funerals, birthdays, and social gatherings with dinners and Swedish events scheduled for late October and early November.
