Pengelly, minister, calls for all members to attend Sunday morning worship at 10:00 and 11:00 Sunday School for a brief talk on an important church matter. A special Missionary Sunday service and sermon will reflect on home and abroad missions.
Im Luther an Church announces regular Sunday worship with a German language service at 9 30 a m and an English language service at 10 30 a m Pastor Carl F Juergensen leads the congregation with services held in both languages.
The Methodist Church announces Sunday School at 10, Morning Worship at 11, and Evening Service at 7 30. Missionary Sunday observed with a special service and offering. Young people meet Sunday 6 30 for a forum. Bi Monthly dinner for young married class Sunday noon in the church basement. September October birthday and anniversary guests. Choir rehearsal Thursdays.

John Alfred Tolin born January 10 1870 in Skedum Parish Sweden came to America in 1878 and lived around Swede Home Nebraska for decades He died October 11 1938 after a nine month illness Survived by five sisters a brother fifteen nephews and twelve nieces Funeral services were held October 14 1938 at Swede Home Lutheran church with Rev C A Sward officiating Interment followed at Swede Home Cemetery
Mr and Mrs Fred Hartje of Lincoln Mrs Tillie Menenga and Bill Brauer of Crete are spending a few days this week in the H G Brauer home.
Mary L. Gestrine Peterson 70 died October 16 1938 in Lincoln Nebraska after moving there six years ago to live with her daughter Born in Sweden August 24 1868 she came to America at age ten Survived by three children Ralph Leonard Ruth Mary and Carl Raymond six grandchildren and one sister Funeral services held at Roberts Mortuary Lincoln and in Stromsburg with Rev E E Pengelly Interment Stromsburg Cemetery
Polk faced Ulysses High on their field and fell 13 to 0 after a strong defensive effort. The game remained scoreless through three quarters before Ulysses broke through early in the fourth with a TD and a successful extra point. Polk forced a fumble that set up the final score, with the extra point also good.
The Stromsburg Community Club hosts the county corn husking contest at Arthur Morrill farm half a mile south of Stromsburg on Friday October 21. Fifteen huskers entered including Lawrence Larson Curtis Flodman Alfred Teegerstrom and Russel Anderson With alternates Russel Kreis Steve Koezer and Tom Meacham planned. A lunch stand will operate on the grounds and a Stromsburg versus Genoa football game starts at 2 p.m.
A community shower was held for the Maurice Lindburgh family at the Baptist Church parlors on Tuesday afternoon. The Lindburgh farm home was destroyed by fire last week. Community members donated many useful items for their future home. Attendees sewed quilt blocks and visited while the Mission Circle ladies served refreshments.
Mr and Mrs David Dornburgh hosted a Sunday afternoon gathering at their home honoring birthday anniversaries of Mrs David Dornburgh Mrs Ernest Lundberg Charles Jenkins of Omaha Gust Johnson Anna Mae Jenkins and Mrs Ansel Lindquist. Also attending were Alice Lindquist Marie Kingsley Duncan Nels Whittgren and sons Claude Brown Stromsburg Frank Westerdale Lois Reed York C C Jenking and family S S Piper and Ida Godown of Broken Bow.

Mr and Mrs Ted Fitch of Lincoln spent Sunday at the Walter Bush home. Mr and Mrs Frank Bolton and family and Jess Rhoades were Sunday dinner guests at the Jai Rhoades home near Bene id. Mr and Mrs Bill Larson entertained to dinner Sunday with Walter Larson and family and Mrs Johanna Larson of Stromsburg. Mrs Axel Fredrickson entertained to dinner Sunday with Mr and Mrs Myron Johnson of Osceola, Mrs Hollis Anderson of Stromsburg, and Miss Adeline Fredrickson of Lincoln. Luther League will meet Thursday with Mrs George Anderson and Mrs Charles Anderson entertaining. Mr and Mrs Newton Dexter and Edna and Grandma Headley of Clarks with Roger Headley spent Saturday in Omaha. Miss Darlene Johnson returned Friday from Lincoln where she had been a patient at Bryan Memorial Hospital. Miss Dorothy Fredrickson was home from Wahoo for the weekend.
Congressman Binderup’s Fourth District tour drew criticism as his campaign demanded local funds and labor for a so called torchlight parade. He backed monetary reform while opponent Carl Curtis pressed flood control and farm program failures, arguing the show distracts from real issues.
Donald LeSeur son of Mr and Mrs N LeSeur of Osceola received a broken arm and severe cuts to the head when his car overturned at an unmarked corner in Perry Iowa on Saturday. A friend in a following car moved him to a hospital for treatment. Bill LeSeur and Allen Cornish drove to Perry to bring him home.

Twentieth Century Club attends York County Club convention in McCool with members Dornburgh, Merchant, Graves, Otte, Bowers, Shenk. pianos by Otte and Dornburgh. Various dinners, visits, and society meeting led by Mrs. John Wochner. Laguna Beach visitor Mrs. Stull joins hosts in Arborville. Ernest Ratliff relatives tour from Trenton Mo. Reckner family from York visits Clarence Reckner’s home.
The Women’s Project Clubs of Polk County meet this month to study The Livable Home by Rizpah Douglas. The program guides furniture arrangement for family activity centers and includes six lessons through fall and winter culminating in April Achievement Day.
N. E. McNeely becomes grandpa again with the birth of twin girls to son Albert and wife in North Platte. Charlene Sue and Charlotte Sue weighed five and six pounds, arrived October 12. Grandparents plan a visit in North Platte Sunday. The couple also has a two year old son.

Special revival services will run from Tuesday evening October 25 through Sunday November 6 at 7 45 each night. Rev Ralph Nelson pastor of the First Baptist Church of Nebraska City will preach nightly with special music provided at all services.
